SANY SP2: sensor networks sub project

The objective of SP2 is to develop the SANY sensor infrastructure. SP2 follows a spiral development approach in order to produce a total of four version of the sensor architecture, the final one be a consolidated one taking into account feedback from standardisation efforts.

An overview of the SP2 work packages is given below:

WP2.0 Sub-project management: This WP covers the technical management of the sub-project and the reporting.

WP2.1 Technology review: This WP will provide a technology analysis and an overview of state-of-the-art concepts for all issues related to sensor networks.

WP2.2 Sensor architecture scenarios and requirements: This WP will identify the most important sensor scenarios, defines a taxonomy of sensor types and scenarios and derives from that functional and non-functional architectural requirements. Close collaboration with the application sub-projects will be carried out.

WP2.3 Sensor architecture: This WP will specify the SANY Sensor architecture comprising both the functional aspects in terms of basic services and informational aspects in terms of associated information models. The resulting sensor architecture specification is an answer to the architectural requirements as identified in WP2.2

WP2.4 Sensor service specification: This WP will specify the sensor services that fulfil the requirements defined by all sub-projects and WP2.2. The specification will be carried out in three revisions.

WP 2.5 Sensor service implementation: This WP will implement the sensor services as specified in WP2.4. The implementation will be carried out in three revisions. It includes service-specific testing

WP 2.6 Testbed: This WP will provide a testbed for incremental and integrated testing of the implemented services. The testbed will contain a simulation environment for sensor networks in order to allow a rapid and incremental development without having to access real-world sensor networks.

WP 2.7 Architecture review: This WP is foreseen as a forum to allow external review for the SP2 specifications, i.e. the sensor architecture and the sensor specifications. Candidates for external reviews are standardisation organisations like the OGC.

WP 2.8 Consolidation: This WP will manage the interaction (including communication and knowledge transfer) between this SP and the other SPs in order to assure that the sensor architecture and the sensor services are tailored to the needs of the DSS infrastructure (SP3) and the application scenarios (SP4, SP5, SP6).
